The Ashes Wedding Photography – Cathy & Brad
Wedding Photography at The Ashes, Staffordshire
A happy day full of laughter, sunshine, table tennis… and a bit of sax.
If you’re looking for a wedding photographer in Staffordshire who loves real moments, Catherine and Brad’s day at The Ashes Barns is a great example of the kind of photos I’ll be capturing on your day.
This one was fantastic from start to finish — a warm, golden day in August at one of Staffordshire’s most stunning barn venues, filled with laughter and plenty of time to relax. It was the first wedding I had shot where the couple decided to hire a table tennis table, perfect for a cheeky match between bride and groom.
The Venue: The Ashes Barns Wedding Photography
I’ve shot countless weddings at The Ashes Barns over the years and it delivers every time. Hidden away in the Staffordshire countryside, it’s a venue that nails that rustic yet heartfelt mood. Catherine and Brad chose it for its laid-back feel, natural lighting and vibrant yet serene spaces, a place for everyone to feel comfortable.
During the summer months especially, the courtyard is an excellent place to unwind — and with the weather on our side, guests were able to soak up the sunshine. The barns themselves give loads of flexibility throughout the day, and with styling from the team at Vintage Venue Dressing, everything looked beautiful without being overdone.
Morning Vibes and Bridal Prep
Catherine got ready on-site, surrounded by her bridesmaids and a joyful mood, hard to beat. Hair was by Lisa Moran, and makeup was done by the brilliant Chelsea Makeup Artist, who both ensured the bride felt calm and looked her absolute best.
The prep room at The Ashes is great for capturing the ideal picture — filled with natural light and plenty of space to relax. There was a buzz of excitement throughout the room and Catherine looked amazing in her dress, with her smile remaining on her face for the rest of the day.
The Ceremony
The ceremony took place inside the West Barn, with its cozy feel and hum of delight. Brad looked incredibly proud as Catherine walked in and there wasn’t a dry eye in sight. It was a ceremony filled with love, and every single person couldn’t resist a smile throughout.
Sunshine, Drinks &… Table Tennis?
After the ceremony, it was straight out into the courtyard for drinks, hugs and confetti. The weather was flawless, adding to the summery vibe and keeping the upbeat mood up.
Most weddings will include some sort of garden game or a bit of outdoor entertainment, but Catherine and Brad decided on something a bit different — a table tennis match to celebrate. Just the two of them, laughing whilst everyone else cheered them on. Brad won (sorry Catherine) and I think these are some of the best photos from the day.
The Sounds of the Day
Throughout the day, different genres of music added to the buzz of the wedding. During the drinks reception, guests were treated to beautiful piano music from Nick Wile and later on, the party really kicked off with Wedding Sounds bringing the tunes, and Benjaminsax adding to the euphoria of a party.
Speeches, Food and All the Good Stuff
The speeches were a mix of laughter, nostalgia and a little bit of chaos — as they should. Even a few tears here and there and of course a solid amount of roasting from the best man.
Guests enjoyed tucking into their food in the East Barn, with a calming, intimate feeling paired with a few rustic touches.
Golden Hour & Dance Floor Mayhem
As the night started to approach, some couple portraits were deemed necessary. Nothing too formal, just a casual walk through the grounds. These are always my favourite moments, and Catherine and Brad were content, as laughter filled the air.
Then it was time for the party to get properly started, and to try and get everyone up dancing. With Wedding Sounds on the decks and Benjaminsax doing his thing, the dance floor was absolutely full, everyone having an amazing time.
Final Thoughts
In my opinion, Catherine and Brad’s wedding was everything you want a summer wedding to be — relaxed, light-hearted and filled with a jubilant mood. Nothing was forced, just two people surrounded by their loved ones, having the best time they could possibly have.
As a wedding photographer from Staffordshire, these days are perfect and The Ashes Barns always provides the perfect backdrop. Massive thanks to them for being such a pleasure to photograph — and for that impromptu table tennis match, which I’ll never forget.
