The Oak Tree Wedding Photography

Image

In August 2024, on one of those rare and ideal British summer days when the sun shines continuously, Charlotte and Tom exchanged their vows at The Oak Tree at Peover. The wedding was all the things you want a wedding to be – easy-going, filled with joy and rooted with special moments, to remember forever.

As a wedding photographer based in Staffordshire, I get to see a lot of beautiful venues, but The Oak Tree at Peover always stands out. Nestled in the Cheshire countryside, near Knutsford, this stylish barn venue effortlessly combines rustic appeal with sleek, contemporary details. Imagine expansive windows, oak beams, and an abundance of natural light – the perfect mix for photographers. It is surrounded by open fields and vibrant gardens, and when the sun is shining, everything feels alive.

Bridal prep with familiar faces

When I arrived in the morning, I found Charlotte preparing alongside her bridesmaids and family, which was truly delightful. I had previously photographed the weddings of two of her bridesmaids, so the day kicked off with hugs, friendly faces, and plenty of laughter - a great start to a fantastic day.

Hannah Cliffe, responsible for hair and makeup, was amazing. She has a calm and friendly vibe that instantly puts everyone at ease – just what you need on a wedding morning. She created a radiant, soft look for Charlotte that held up perfectly throughout the day, even during the more emotional moments.

A sunshine-filled outdoor ceremony

With the sun shining brightly and hardly any clouds in sight, Charlotte and Tom held their ceremony outside. The grounds of the Oak Tree are made for this  – spacious and airy, with just the right amount of shade for guests to be comfortably sat.

One of the highlights of the ceremony was Sophia Boryslawska, an incredible saxophonist who played glorious live music throughout – adding a subtle and emotional mood as Charlotte walked down the aisle. As the ceremony came to an end, a more uplifting and soulful mood was created as everyone cheered and there was, of course, confetti.

The ceremony itself was genuine and heartfelt – Charlotte looked incredible, and I didn’t once see the smile from from Tom’s face from the moment he saw her. There were a few tears, a lot of laughter, and a real sense of joy that lasted all the way to the last dance.

Drinks, lawn games and sun-drenched photos

Following the ceremony, guests poured into the gardens to enjoy drinks and canapés, as Sophia maintained the lively atmosphere with additional saxophone music. It was one of those uncommon days in the UK when the sun truly radiated warmth – sunglasses on, ice in drinks, and everyone was simply relishing in the moment.

The event featured garden games, numerous clinking glasses, and plenty of candid moments – precisely the type of scenes I enjoy capturing. There was no forced posing,  just real, authentic moments. We took a brief break for some casual couple portraits around the venue, taking advantage of the soft golden light.  Charlotte and Tom were completely at ease, more focused on laughing with one another than on the camera which I think is always the best approach to create the perfect picture.

Beautiful styling by Flossie

The barn was designed by the talented team at Flossie, who were also responsible for all the floral arrangements. The atmosphere was soft and romantic, with dusky pinks, creamy whites, and plenty of fresh greenery. The long tables were adorned with foliage runners, flickering candles, and delicate flower arrangements that felt fresh from the garden. An ideal balance between elegance and a laid-back vibe was achieved – nothing too excessive.

The flowers carried through the whole day, from the bouquets to the ceremony arch to the table centres – and they all tied together flawlessly with the rustic, airy space of The Oak Tree.

Speeches, dancing and that golden evening glow

The speeches were another big highlight – they were heartfelt, humorous, and flawlessly presented. Tom’s best man had the audience in stitches, yet there were also several poignant moments where tears were being wiped away. Once more, this reflected the overall atmosphere of the day – genuine and unrefined.

As the golden hour approached, we snuck out for some more portraits in that enchanting soft evening light. Charlotte kicked off her heels, and they strolled barefoot across the grass, laughing and holding hands as if no one else was around - the most valuable moment.

After that, it was time to take to the dancefloor. The barn was filled with music and lively movement, drinks held in hand, shoes discarded, and everyone embracing the moment. The entire day had been warm and radiant, and the evening was equally delightful.

Why I loved this wedding

Being a wedding photographer in Staffordshire, days like this are what I live for – beautiful natural light, a striking venue and a relaxed mood, filled with meaningful moments.

Charlotte and Tom's wedding was the perfect mix of chilled and heartfelt, and it was an honor to attend. I loved seeing familiar faces, capturing images of bridesmaids whose weddings I had already photographed and watching two people celebrate their love.

If you’re planning your own wedding at The Oak Tree at Peover or anywhere in Staffordshire or Cheshire, and want honest, storytelling-focused photography without the awkward posing or cheesy moments – I’d love to hear from you.
